I am Gumble, bringer of original sculpture,

A young and emerging artist, living and working in Hertfordshire, Southeastern England.

What excites me about sculpture over any art form is its interactivity and physical presence. Interacting with artwork is just as important as seeing it, sensory experiences allow the art to go further and deeper. You can touch it, feel it, even taste it, if that’s your thing. Ultimately, I am sick of art being this pretentious and untouchable thing, when it should be anything but.

When it comes to design it’s all about form. Everyone and thing has a form, but what makes it worth it, is establishing a relationship between shape and the viewer. What I mean by this is imbuing every sculpture with a human ambiguity; Creating human-like forms that are too abstract to be considered realistic but also retain some features enough to be relatable to the observer. Seeing something of themselves in every piece or remind them of someone else in their lives. That connection between a human and something inanimate is unrivaled.

Over the years my sculpture has evolved beside me, being proud to say that I am fully self-taught and I’ve learnt the creation process myself. Hence, free from the potentially restrictive narratives of academies and institutions, I can truly say the art is a pure distillation of my own reality.

Showcasing art at local markets, for local people.

3 generations in one photo; my late grandfather (left), my father (right) and myself, the baby in his arms.

Back then, it introduced a style that was unseen to the local population. Even then these sculptures were made accessible and interactable.

These sculptures are all gone now, all sold. I like to think about where they all ended up, impacting whatever landscape they inhabit.

Developed and passed down over 30 years, a lifelong art that transcends generations
